They can transform softish, flabby weak drums into punchy beasts. They are obvious, they change the signal into something "tighter", "harder" which in my book also stands for "more definition". They are not "round" sounding in any way. It just works better than almost any other gate I have used and I don´t know why.Ībout the compression, here are my hints: First off, I love the gate section of the dynamics.
Once you have that saved in your brain, they are a really nice tool to have for several things. Imho you just have to "learn" what the SSL channel dynamics do, what they are good on and what they cannot deliver. but i have fallen in love with the api plugsthumbsup they have become my favorite and reach for those much more! don't get me wrong, i use the ssl pugs all the time. for some reason i can never get what im looking for. i don't use the channel strip much because i don't use the comp on there much. PS: Not that it matters much but could it be that the GR led metering on the channel strips is not very accurate?I have the ssl plugs. That thing is a beast and sounds amazing!! Please dont get confused, I'm not talking about the Buss compressor. Maybe I'm just not experienced enough with this unit tho.īefore I buy the Waves SSL I was wondering if you guys use the dynamics at all and if so what on? Having a UAD-2 with pretty much all of the comps what specific use could I find for the SSL Channel strip compressor? I tried them on Piano and Vocals and just couldnt get any usable sound at all. However in my quick 15minutes demo I wasnt too impressed by the Dynamics. I have to say that I thought the EQs and Filters where fantastic. I had the chance to play around with the Waves SSL plugins in a studio we hired.
